Catch up on all the happenings at Alaska Sportfishing Expeditions for the week of June 28, 2021.
Welcome back to the Ketchikan Fishing Minute for the week of June 28, 2021.
Like the rest of the pacific northwest this last week, Ketchikan was feeling the heat with record temperatures recorded over the weekend.
Guests and locals alike were anxious to take advantage of the sunshine and to get out on the water with family and friends.
Speaking of family, Silver king lodge had the pleasure of hosting the Lewis family reunion this past week with over 50 family members in attendance, ranging in age from rose to seven years old.
All the way up to, well out of respect for the family, elders let's just say there are a few years between Rose and grandpa Randy and grandpa Dave.
Dave and Randy were two of the lodges very first guests ever.
Way back in the day, when the lodge was still floating, guests brought their own sleeping bags and a hot shower was a 50/50 proposition.
We're happy the amenities have improved significantly since then but still, look back fondly at our roots and the relationships that have endured over the last 36 years we've been operating.
Dave and Randy certainly were able to pass on their love of fishing as there were plenty of smiles on the dock all week, as family members caught fish and caught up with one another.
One of the best compliments we hear every year is, where do you find such great staff!
Although we aren't willing to share all of our secrets, it's not a secret that we love the young adults that make up our team each year.
The icing on the cake comes when they make their way back after years of being big kids out in the world.
It's great to hear about how they are doing, learn about their careers and families, and for them to experience some of the new and exciting things we are doing in the business.
This last week Kelton and Cody Crittenden made their way up to Clover pass resort, with some extended family.
Cody was a Cedars lodge staff member during our 2010 season with brother Kelton joining him for the 2011 season.
Wayne Geiman was a part of the construction crew that moved Silver king from a floating lodge up onto land and then managed the dock at cedars in 1997 and 1998.
Not happy with the sunshine in San Diego Wayne and his buddies traveled to Ketchikan to catch a few kings some halibut and some rays.
It worked out for the group and they were successful in finding all three.
When finding out that the staff had taken some time for a little R R out on the tube.
Kelton Cody and Wayne all thought the company had gone a little soft.
There was no tubing back in the olden days.
Whether it's tubing or fishing or catching up with friends or spending time with family, Ketchikan seems to be the perfect place to make it all happen.
When it does, we'll be sure to tell you all about it on the next Ketchikan Fishing Minute.
