Catch up on the week's events at Alaska Sportfishing Expeditions in Ketchikan, Alaska. Information for the week of June 21, 2021.
Welcome back to the Ketchikan fishing minute for the week of June 21st, 2021.
This last week we celebrated father's day and wanted to give a special shout out to all the dads out there.
Especially the ones that have shared their love of fishing with their kids.
Paul Allen happens to be just one of those dads, who this last week along with his wife Jane and children Ryder, Max, and Daisy made his way to Clover pass resort for a few days of fishing and outdoor adventure.
Paul is a die-hard fisherman but keeping young kids entertained on the boat all day-long can be challenging.
So Paul and Jane mixed things up all week by fishing, hiking and spending some time at the resort.
This brings us to the afternoon where Paul's son Ryder hooked into a nice fish while wetting a line from the dock.
With the help from dad, Paul Ryder was able to land a 75-pound halibut.
A beautiful fish for any angler but a special catch for a boy and his dad.
Certainly, a memory that will be shared at many future families get-togethers.
The size of the fish and the fight sure to get a little bigger with each retelling.
As we mentioned last week chinook fishing opened up on inside waters on the 15th of June.
We've seen a steady stream of fish across the dock during the last week.
Self-guided fishing was a little bit slow so some self-guided guests opted to upgrade to a guided trip with a guide to target both chinook and halibut.
All of them successfully finding fish while out with the guide.
A few sunny days even made an appearance last week.
Out at silver king lodge veteran guests Craig and Joyce Nelson spent some extra time targeting bottom fish and were able to find some nice halibut and a variety of cod including a colorful ling.
The cedars lodge saw a steady flow of fish across the dock too.
This week they hosted the hall group Clint, John, Nico, and Victor all celebrating their 25th anniversary of fishing at the lodge with guide Sean mitchell.
The staff was ready to celebrate with peanut butter cookies and fried chicken waiting for clint and a homemade apple pie paired with a side of sharp cheddar cheese, a group favorite.
One of the best parts of our job is spoiling our guests that have become dear friends over the years.
As well as welcoming new guests for what we hope will be the first of many visits to Ketchikan.
We can't wait to spoil all of you that have upcoming trips with us this summer and anxiously wait at the dock to get a report on how your outing went.
When we do, we'll be sure to tell the rest of you all about it on the Ketchikan fishing minute.
