Catch up with all that's happening at Alaska Sportfishing Expeditions in Ketchikan, Alaska. For the week of August 16, 2021.
Welcome back to the Ketchikan fishing minute for the week of August 16, 2021.
This week gave us a small preview of what fall might be like with rain and some lower temperatures.
Temps this week were in the high 50s and we got over three inches of rain throughout the week.
True to form for fall the weather seemed to change on a dime moving between hard rain and then to blue skies and then back again in a matter of just a few hours.
Fishing seemed to hit a bit of a lull this week.
As well as commercial activity in and around clover passage and west beam canal continued.
The pinks near the end of their 2021 summer run, and the fall coho start to build towards their peak in early to mid-September.
That being said guests still found some fish and were successful in targeting salmon halibut and other bottom fish.
If you didn't happen to see them on our Facebook page, Silverking lodge guests Mike and Bonnie Peterson posted some fabulous photos on their Facebook page that we shared after another great trip to Silverking lodge.
Mike and Bonnie have been coming to Silverking for more than 20 years and this year brought 11 other couples along on their annual trip.
Although they love to fish they are also some of our guests that make sure to take in all that Alaska has to offer including wildlife viewing, hiking, shopping, charter fishing, and flightseeing.
Mike's post included the following quote “ Yes...Silverking Lodge is a pretty decent fishing lodge but if that's all you do is catch fish and hang it on the board.... you'll really be missing out on what makes this place so special”
We couldn't agree more.
The photos not only capture some of the beauty surrounding Ketchikan but also the happy faces of our guests, which makes us excited to show up for work each day.
Whether you're hiking, exploring, shopping, wildlife viewing, flightseeing, fishing, or catching, we'll be there to capture a little piece of your journey and share it with the rest of you on the next Ketchikan fishing minute.
