Clover Pass Resort celebrated our “unofficial” season opening with the beginning of the annual Ketchikan CHARR King Salmon Derby, beginning each year over Memorial Day weekend.
The derby, in its 63rd year, offers local anglers over $90,000 in cash and prizes, including a $10,000 grand prize awarded to the largest king. The derby lasts three weekends and ends this year on June 13th.
Clover Pass Resort is an official derby weigh-in station, with the station manned by Rotary 2000 of Ketchikan.
Jeremy Merrill, Clover Pass’s dock manager, managed to get out on the water during opening day. His 11.8 lb entry was one of the first fish landed in the event. A 39.3 lb king tops the leader board heading into Memorial Day! Fish on!
